SUNSHINE CLUB
Thank you to our sunshine club coordinator, Michelle Lay, and her members for their happy smiles and greeting at our meeting. Please don't forget that they have forms at the back table for communicating information to them about any news you would like celebrated and/or shared. This month the club sent out notes to Mary Goodin, as her husband is in the hospital.

Louise's Charity Corner
Our Guild donated 247 quilts in 2025
We donated quilts to Achievement Academy, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Lakeland Police Department, A Woman’s Choice, Anchor House, Good Shepard Hospice in Lakeland and Auburndale, Vitas Hospice, Give Kids the World, Dr. DuPont’s Watson Clinic Office, Pregnancy Care Center, One More Child, Dream Center, Peace River Center, and Tampa VA Hospital. 22 heart pillows were also donated to Dr. DuPont’s office. Many thanks to everyone who gave of their time and talents. Our community is very appreciative.

New year for Fat Quarters! This month's fat quarter drawing is hearts or Angels. Bring in a fat quarter, and if your ticket is drawn, you go home with a fat quarter bundle. See Diane Bishop at the back table to turn in your fat quarter(s). Next month's fat quarter is: Strawberries

Second Saturday Class News!
|
We have no Second Saturday class in January. Our next class with be in February with Donna Bishop. She is heading up a Block of the Month and will have an accuquilt cutter and block information to start getting your blocks together for the block of the month. Since this year is our Nation's quincentennial, the theme is America. You can choose any block, but Donna has given you many choices. There is also an image of the month if you want to embroider or paint your blocks and those images will also be available at the Second Saturday class. The January meeting is your last chance (besides the show) to get your opportunity to take the Opportunity Quilt home with you. Pick up your Opportunity Quilt tickets from Marcie. They are $25 for 30 tickets and are located at the back table. We ask each member to sell $25 worth.

2026 Quilt Show News!
|
The January meeting is your last opportunity so sign up to volunteer for the show. Please check out the volunteer sheets that will be circulated at the meeting to find your space to volunteer. It takes all of us to make this quilt show a success. If you have a question about any of the volunteer positions, please do not hesitate asking questions.

ADOPT A BASKET UPDATE
Please bring your baskets to the January meeting in a basket, if possible. If you do not have a basket, we have a few available for you. If you do not have a basket, please bring your basket items in a bag with your name on it so that we can keep all of your items together. Please make a list of the items in your basket. The guild will wrap the basket with cellophane and a bow.

Spring Retreat 2026
Time is ticking and spots are few for you to get your deposit in for Spring Retreat 2026. Deposits are being taken online for $100, or bring a cash/check to the meeting. The theme for this year is America: Quilt Style. We will be celebrating quilts in America. Total cost for the retreat is $475 for double room and $635 for single room. Total will be due by February meeting. You can make your final payment by cash/check at the meetings. Please label your check "Spring Retreat", or put your cash in an envelope with your name on it and "Spring Retreat". Thanks.

It takes all of us to make our Quilt Show a success. This month I would like to thank Jean McCarter, who is in charge of getting ads placed in our program, and Judy Kryger for producing our Quilt Show program.

QUILTING AT THE LIBRARY
|
Our guild is sponsoring a new quilters class at the library next year. This will be a seven week class on Monday afternoons from 3-5 starting February 9-March 23. Think of it as quilting 101. Kimberly is teaching the class but is looking for volunteers to assist in the class. If you are interested, there will be a sign up sheet at the back table.

Carolyn Bluhm of K9 Quilts will be with us at our January meeting to tell us about her organization, K9 Quilts of Honor. This very worthy organization recognizes dogs of service in Law Enforcement, Fire Search and Rescue and Military working K9 though the “K9 Quilts of Honor”. You will have a chance to participate in the organization by helping us make quilts on the Friday following the meeting. Also, look for Carolyn's table at our Quilt show. This is the organization that we are supporting with our Quilt Show cookie sales.

She began sewing doll clothes with her grandmother when she was
about eight and has been sewing ever since. She graduated with a degree in Home Economics Education
which included classes in garment construction, fabric characteristics and color selection. She began
quilting when she retired a few years ago. A Florida friend introduced her to Laura Heine’s collage
quilting. She took her first collage class with Laura Heine at Flash Sew & Quilt in Naples, FL in 2023. She
was inspired to become a Certified instructor.

JANUARY CLASS WITH CAROLYN BLUHM
|
|
Friday, January 16th, at the church from 10-4, you will have the opportunity to make a memory to benefit our K9 friends in service. The guild is purchasing 20 quilt kits for the members to sew and donate to our local service dogs. We are asking you to donate your time and talent to get these quilts completed. They are already cut and ready to sew. Please sign up on the website and bring your sewing machine and notions you cannot sew without. Lunch will be provided. Don't miss out. Sign up on the events calendar. Don't wait. There are only a few spots left.

A 2026 BLOCK OF THE MONTH IS HEADED YOUR WAY
|
Donna Bishop is heading up a block of the month program for 2026. This BOM starts in February. The idea is to celebrate the nation's quincentennial. In the supply list section of the website, you will find a list of the block ideas and there is also a sign up sheet at the back table if you are interested in participating. You can also click the button below for the BOM suggestions list. Our Second Saturday in February is dedicated to prepping for the year. Here is what makes this block of the month fun. If you choose to participate, you will paying $5.00 one time to participate. Every month participants will get one entry (if your block is completed) into the giveaway. At the February 2027 meeting, when you have completed your quilt, a name will be drawn and someone will win the "pot". Currently there are 23 entered, so that makes a $115.00 prize.

COLLAGE QUILT LAURA HEINE METHOD TAUGHT BY

Our class in February is being taught by advanced certified Laura Heine instructor, Rebecca Eyer. Don't wait to sign up. There is limited space available. Also please take note of the supply list items needed for this class. You will need also a small iron space at your table. THIS IS NOT A SEWING CLASS. You will not need your sewing machine in the class. You will be building your collage. Rebecca is focusing on the teeny collage pattern group #5, but you may choose another of the teeny collage patterns for the class. You will be required to purchase your own pattern for the class. The original Sewing and Quilt Expo is coming March 19-21. Our guild sponsors a booth at the expo and give us an opportunity to share our guild information with the attendees. In February there will be sign up opportunity. This volunteer opportunity allows free parking and entry into the exhibit hall in exchange for a few hours of your time. Please consider volunteering. This year we are trying something different. Instead of having a year long challenge that ends at the Christmas party, we are doing a short term challenge that coincides with our nations celebration, our challenge is simple and due at the July meeting, 2026. The challenge: make something patriotic, any size, and we will vote on it at the July meeting.
