Don't forget our 2024 Guild Challenge. It is due at the Christmas Party. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Our 2024 guild challenge is storybook. The dimensions are no smaller than 8″ x 10″ and no larger than 36″ square. You can use any storybook theme or character(s) and any method you choose, i.e. pieced, embroidered, painted, appliqued, etc. An example would be: Mary Poppins, The Old Woman in the Shoe, Peter Rabbit, etc.

2025 RETREAT OPPORTUNITIES

January 13-18, 2025 DAY RETREAT at Fabric Warehouse.

Daily 9-4. Bring your own project and enjoy social sewing with your fellow quilters. Cost is $10 a day paid directly to Fabric Warehouse. You can sign up NOW on the Events Calendar.

April 28-May 1 2025 SPRING RETREAT at DaySpring Conference Center. Deposits are now being taken ONLINE ($100) AND meetings for this retreat. We are already close to being filled, so if you are wanting a space, don't wait. Cost is $375 double occupancy and $485 single occupancy. You can pay in full, or make a $100 deposit to save your spot. Total due by February guild meeting (February 20, 2025) Theme is ENCHANTED FAIRY GARDEN.

2024 Guild Christmas Party

Our 2024 guild Christmas Party will once again be held at Mount Olive Shores North (MOSN), 405 Nolane Lane, Polk City, FL. 33568. Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased online or with cash or check at the meeting. Don't forget your 2024 challenge.

The name of this month's workshop is NOT SO MINDLESS SCRAP QUILTS. Using a fabric glue stick or a sewing machine, explore the design possibilities of abstract or pictorial busy, bold and bodacious, large scale prints while making traditional blocks. Learn how to efficiently cut and piece blocks, then organize them so they sparkle. Continue using wild fabric for your back, binding and border. Participants will make 25 or more approximately 4” blocks for a wallhanging finishing approximately 22” x 22”. Top will be quilted at home.. Cost is $45.00 and tickets can be purchased on the website. There is a $10.00 additional fee for non-members payable at the time of the class. Classes are non-refundable but they are transferrable. We will be taking a vote in the NOVEMBER guild meeting to revise our ByLaws as to the handling of our annual membership dues. As you know, payment is made annually. That has not changed. The difference is that now you have a personal renewal date instead of everyone renewing in January. This eliminates the rush at the end of the year to make your payment and also for the Secretary to take everyone's payment at the same time. It also eliminates the need to prorate payments from July-December. This has been in effect since January 2024, we just need to make it "official" in our ByLaws.

Meet our Guest Speakers/Upcoming Guild Meetings

Kathryn Pellman is an artist, fashionista, quilter, cook, baker, gardener and storyteller. Her whimsical series of small, playful, single frame cartoons featuring long limbed and knobby kneed Fashionistas that invoke fashion illustration. Fashionistas mixed with some Word Salad combine fashion and quilting along with her passions and are a celebration and exploration of women and femininity, their lives, friendships and romantic relationships, real and imagined.

Author, pattern designer, and national quilting instructor Beth Helfter has one rule about quilting – it’s supposed to be fun. With that in mind, along with her company motto of “Inspired Designs, Relaxed Attitude,” Beth brings visionary designs and techniques to her patterns and exuberance and encouragement to the classroom. Looking for staid or typical? You won’t find it here.
Beth will be teaching the workshop, “Flying Frankies Tote” Flying Frankies – Outlined Accordion Sewn HSTs™ Tote Bag in a Day. The supply list is in the Bylaws and Forms section of the website.
