AUGUST 10TH, FABRIC WAREHOUSE! 9-4 CHARITY QUILT SEWALONG

For our August second Saturday meeting, Fabric Warehouse is hosting us for a Charity Quilt Sewalong. Time to go through your stash and make use of that fabric you are not going to use. The Accuquilt cutting machine and 8" die and block will be available for use. There will be some cut squares available to sew. Please join us to sew some quilts for our community. time will be 9-4. Bring your lunch. PLEASE RSVP ON THE EVENTS CALENDAR ON THE WEBSITE

Ladies of the Lakes is sponsoring a fall retreat at the Word of Life Conference Center in Hudson, Florida. October 28 - 31, 2024. An exciting time to get together with friends you need to spend time with and get to know better. Bring projects to work on as well as there will be treats, fun, but no tricks for Halloween! Check out the website to rsvp to show intent. There are 6 spots left. A $100 deposit reserves your spot. You can pay at the meeting, or contact Deb Stoltz to make other arrangements.

Some feedback from a quilt recipient: "So pretty," as she slipped one arm at a time under the quilt and patted it at the same time.
From Lakeland Police Department: Occasionally we have a child waiting here temporarily for several hours while DCF is working on placement. We give them a quilt while they are here and then they can take it with them to keep.

SUNSHINE AND SHADOW REPORT
|
I am so sad to report that our dear friend Flo Bradbury passed away on June 24th, 2024. Her obituary says "Known for her sassy spirit and wit sharper than her sewing needles, Flo was the embodiment of love wrapped in a quilt of caring and compassion." That is such a great description of her. Flo, you will be greatly missed.

Our Guild Challenge Reminder:

Due at the December 2024 Christmas Party
|
|
Our 2024 guild challenge is storybook. The dimensions are no smaller than 8″ x 10″ and no larger than 36″ square. You can use any storybook theme or character(s) and any method you choose, i.e. pieced, embroidered, painted, appliqued, etc. An example would be: Mary Poppins, The Old Woman in the Shoe, Peter Rabbit, etc. The challenge will be voted on at the December Christmas party.

Upcoming September Workshop

Paula Golden, September 20, 2024

|
Paula will be teaching a feathered star workshop featuring her design and Paula’s paper foundation pattern makes sewing a feathered star as easy as stitching a straight line. Value and color placement as well as piecing tips and techniques are presented. Cost is $45.00 and tickets can be purchased on the website. There is a $10.00 additional fee for non-members payable at the time of the class. Classes are non-refundable but they are transferrable.

Brenda Buddenhagen, an Orlando, Florida resident, and an experienced quilter, will be our guest speaker for August. Brenda has been a fabric rep for Blank Textiles since 2005 and will share the new and latest trends in fabric you will be seeing in your favorite quilt shops. Bring your questions about fabrics and she will be more than happy to answer them.

Her passion for the stories behind the quilts is a leading theme in her work.
Selected as “2001 Teacher of the Year” by The Professional Quilter Magazine Paula has been quilting since the early 1970s and teaching for over twenty years including the International Quilt Festival, Houston. Her quilts, patterns and articles have been published in magazines and books.
